Sexual trauma doesn’t only affect our emotions… it can deeply affect the way we see our bodies, care for them, and relate to movement, fitness, food, intimacy, and even our reflection in the mirror.

Some people disconnect from their bodies completely.
Some become overly critical of their appearance.
Some use fitness as punishment.
Others avoid movement altogether because being in their body doesn’t feel safe.

Many of us learned to disconnect from our bodies in order to survive.
To hide.
To numb.
To feel shame.
To feel unsafe.

But healing can also look like slowly learning to reconnect… with compassion, safety, curiosity, and grace. ✨

To protect our parents.

But nobody protected us.

So we became who we needed to be to survive.

And the hardest part?
No one clapped for that performance.
No one even knew.

Instead some people even admired us.

Impostor syndrome is born.

Over time, the lines blurred…

What is even the truth?

That confusion follows us into adulthood—
in our relationships, our choices, our identity.

But awareness is where it shifts.

Today, we celebrate that Jesus has risen but let’s also celebrate that we are rising too! As we heal our wounds, shedding everything that leads us to death, we make space for all the goodness, that God has placed inside of us, and we return to Life.
